The animals that you see at this site have been either picked up throughout the parish (county) or turned in by their owners who could no longer keep them or no longer wanted them. They have been held for the required amount of time and are now available for adoption with ONLY DAYS LEFT TO LIVE. If you are interested in adoption or rescue, CALL THE CENTER at 337-291-5645 or VISIT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THIS PETFINDER PAGE IS MAINTAINED BY VOLUNTEERS, NOT BY SHELTER PERSONNEL. DO NOT WAIT FOR A RESPONSE....GO TO THE SHELTER! THE INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THOSE ANSWERING THE PHONE IS NOT ALWAYS COMPLETE AS THEY DO NOT WORK IN THE KENNELS, SO PLEASE GO IN PERSON.While we are happy to work with legitimate rescue groups including those from out of state, we do not arrange transport, boarding or foster homes as we have no rescue program of our own and have a very limited staff. If you are with a rescue group who has not previously worked with this shelter , you must make arrangements in advance with Virginia Lee, the shelter director. You are asked to fax to her attention your adoption standards, spay/neuter policy and proof of 501(c)(3) status IN ADVANCE to: 337-291-7051. Due to the paperwork involved, please allow ample time for paperwork to be completed once you go to Roicy. Follow-up documentation from the vet will be required to show proof of spay/neuter within 30 days and rabies shot within 72 hrs. on each animal pulled by your rescue group.
We are a very small facility with a limited amount of space. Out of state adoptions are allowed, but must be done in person, or with the assistance of a local contact or rescue group. We do not do adoptions over the phone and arrange your transport or ship an animal to you.
LOCAL VOLUNTEERS ARE URGENTLY NEEDED TO FOSTER FOR LOCAL RESCUE GROUPS, OVERNIGHT ANIMALS PULLED BY RESCUES UNTIL OUT OF TOWN RESCUES CAN PICK THEM UP, AND TO TRANSPORT TO BATON ROUGE AND NEW ORLEANS FOR RESCUE GROUPS. THERE IS ALSO A GREAT NEED FOR LOCALS TO PICK UP ANIMALS AT THE SHELTER DURING THE DAY AND TRANSPORT TO FOSTERS OR TO THE VET FOR RESCUE GROUPS. WHETHER AN ANIMAL LIVES OR DIES MAY DEPEND ON IT HAVING A PLACE TO SPEND A FEW DAYS OR A RIDE TO A NEIGHBORING CITY.
REGARDING SPONSORSHIPS, ROICY DOES NOT ACCEPT SPONSORSHIPS, BUT A PLEDGE TO AN AREA RESCUE CAN HELP OFFSET EXPENSES. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO OFFER ONE, WE WILL GET THE WORD OUT. YOU WOULD PAY THE ORG DIRECTLY IN THE EVENT THEY PULLED THE PET. PLEASE NOTE THAT EVEN WITH DONATIONS, THE ANIMAL HAS TO HAVE A PLACE TO GO, SO OFFERING A DONATION DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT AN ANIMAL WILL BE PULLED. Save a life - adopt a homeless animal!
Our adoptable animals are available MONDAY through FRIDAY from 10:00 - 5:00, except for Tuesday and Friday when we are open 1:00 - 5:00. Open Saturday from 10:00 - 2:00. The adoption fees vary for dogs and cats and range from $53 to $68 dollars (CASH PAYMENT ONLY, no credit cards) and includes a certificate for a rabies shot, microchipping of the animal by the shelter and altering by a local veterinarian within Lafayette Parish. We are located off of Interstate 49, Exit 1B - Pont Des Mouton Road (west side of I-49).About our center...
We are an euthanizing shelter due to over population in our parish (county) and are governed by Emergency Preparedness. We receive many animals into our facility each day. As of September 2007, more than 8000 animals have entered the facility, more than ALL of 2006. From lost and found pets to strays and pregnant moms, we accept any and all animals who need a home. Unfortunately, due to space limitations, we are not able to house all the animals that pass through our doors. Most do not make it to adoption and are euthanized. We DO NOT offer Pit Bull or Chow dogs for adoption.Each day, some of the animals are available for adoption on a first-come, first serve basis during the hours we are open. While many of the animals turned into the center do not have history or health records, they deserve a second chance. We cannot guarantee a pet's health, nor provide any medical information such as previous vaccinations or problems. To ensure your new pets health the Animal Center does require that all newly adopted pets be examined by a licenses vet within 72 hours. No refunds or exchanges will be considered unless this examination is made. Please remember to bring CASH as Roicy does NOT accept credit cards or checks.
PLEASE REMEMBER, REGARDLESS OF WHERE THE ANIMAL COMES FROM, BUT ESPECIALLY COMING FROM A SHELTER SITUATION, ALL NEW ANIMALS TO THE HOUSEHOLD SHOULD BE COMPLETELY QUARANTINED FROM EXISTING PETS FOR A PERIOD OF NO LESS THAN TEN DAYS.
MEDIUM TO LARGE DOGS, ESPECIALLY BLACK AND BROWN ONES, AND PLAIN TABBIES, TORTIES, AND BLACK CATS ARE THE LAST TO BE CHOSEN. PLEASE CONSIDER SAVING THE LIFE OF ONE WHO HAS LITTLE HOPE.
REGARDING SURRENDERING YOUR PET......THIS HAS BEEN A RECORD SETTING YEAR FOR INTAKES. THE ANIMALS YOU ARE SEEING AVAILABLE ARE A VERY SMALL PERCENTAGE OF THOSE WHO HAVE ENTERED THE FACILITY. SO PLEASE SEEK A SAFE ALTERNATIVE FOR YOUR PET. THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT YOUR PET WILL BE OFFERED FOR ADOPTION, AND THERE IS A VERY GOOD CHANCE THAT YOUR PET WILL BE EUTHANIZED WITHOUT BEING GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO ADOPTION ROW.
